The Town of Barkhamsted has once again opted to participate in the governor's payment deferral program. Taxes due for anyone except a real estate that is escrowed or a landlord tax do not have to be paid until April 1, 2021. If you opt to defer the payment of your taxes, please remember to pay them on or before Thursday, April 1, 2021 to avoid the late penalty 6% or minimum of $2.00 per bill.
Town offices remain closed due to COVID-19. Taxes can be paid in the following ways:
- - Come to the lower level door of the town hall Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday 8:30 - 4:30 and ring the doorbell one time. Someone will come out to assist you with your payment. Cash or checks only in the office.
- - Drop your payment outside of the town hall lower lever door in the black mail box to the left of the door. To get a receipt, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
- - Pay through the online system by clicking the link on the front page of the town webpage. If you pay by check (ACH) the fee will be $0.95 for the entire transaction and with a debit/credit card the fee is 2.95% of the total paid.
- - Mail your payment to Terri Collins, Tax Collector, P.O. Box 195, Pleasant Valley, CT 06063-0195. We have to go by the postmark on the envelope so you may want to ask for your payment to be hand cancelled to insure a legally accepted date if you are paying close to the deadline.
Be sure your math is correct. Review your check to be sure it has a current date, that the numeric and written portions are the same and written correctly, and that it is signed!! Incorrect checks will be returned and your payment will be considered late if not returned on or before the last day to pay.
As always, if you have any questions, please call the tax office at (860) 738-4762 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
