September 29, 2022
Dear Residents,
On Tuesday, November 8, 2022 there will be a General State Election. Absentee ballot applications are available now and up until the day before the election. Beginning October 7, 2022, once the application has been received in my office, your ballot will be sent by mail to the address you designate on the application form. Your completed ballot must be returned no later than 8:00 pm on Election Day to be counted.
Connecticut law allows you to receive an absentee ballot if you cannot appear at your polling place on election day because of active service in the Military, absence from the town, sickness, religious tenets that forbid secular activity on the day of the election, duties as an election official at a polling place other than your own during all of the hours of voting, or physical disability. The application form may be downloaded at
https://portal.ct.gov/sots under the elections tab, or you may pick one up in my office.
This letter also serves to notify you that you may be receiving unsolicited absentee ballot application forms in the mail or in person in the next few weeks. There have been 5 different Connecticut political party campaigns that have registered with my office for a total of approximately 1,300 absentee ballot applications. This is allowed by CT law. Please keep in mind that these applications are just an option for you. If you do not wish to vote by absentee ballot, just ignore the application that was sent to you. As this office has no control over who gets sent these application forms, there also may be a possibility that you will receive more than one application form. If you wish to vote by absentee ballot, please complete and return only ONE application form.
See you at the polls on Tuesday, November 8th at the Barkhamsted Elementary School. Polls will be open from 6am to 8pm.
As usual, please feel free to call me at 860-379-8665 if you have any questions.
Regards,
Holly Krouse, Barkhamsted Town Clerk
