IMPORTANT NOTICE TO BARKHAMSTED LANDLORDS
June 17, 2020
Governor Lamont’s Executive Order 7S/7W requires each town to establish a program to assist taxpayers with their tax obligations. The Barkhamsted Board of Selectmen voted to go with a 90-day tax deferral program. This means that the last day to pay July 1, 2020, tax bills will be October 1, 2020. However, per the EO, both residential and commercial landlords’ real estate bills are not included, unless they file an application requesting the deferral and meet certain criteria. Please read the following, and if you feel you qualify to have your taxes deferred for the 90 day period, please file the application and provide the needed information on or before the deadline of JULY 1, 2020.
Residential landlords were required by Executive Order 7X to grant 60-day rent extensions to tenants for April and May. If you complied with this order and suffered commensurate forbearance, complete the form and attach a letter, or send an email indicating that you complied with Governor Lamont’s Executive Order 7X.
Commercial landlords must have suffered a significant revenue decline or offer commensurate forbearance to tenants to qualify to have their taxes deferred for the 90 days. You will need to complete the form and provide documentation to prove you qualify in accordance with the criteria set forth on the form.
Deferral request form M-COVID19 is available on the tax collector page of the town website (www.barkhamsted.us). A fillable form is also available on portal.ct.gov; search for form M-COVID19. The form must be completed and returned to the tax office with the necessary proof either by fax to (860) 379-9284, scanned and emailed to the email below, or by mail to PO Box 195, Pleasant Valley, CT 06063, on or before JULY 1, 2020. No exceptions to this deadline.
If you have any questions or feel that you have been erroneously coded as a landlord, please contact me.
