The Barkhamsted School
March 9, 2018
Dear Residents of Barkhamsted,
It is with a deep sense of emotion that I write this announcement of my pending retirement. As I tell everyone, I came to Barkhamsted as Superintendent in 2006 and planned to stay three years. Now, twelve years later I feel it is time to retire.
I have enjoyed working with the town of Barkhamsted Board of Education, a very supportive and forward thinking group with excellent leadership. The students in our school have given me great respect and affection, I will miss them. The staff, most of whom have been hired during my tenure, have been great to work with professionally and personally. Leadership provided by Kristen Plocki and Erika Sacharko and support of the office staff, Sheryl, Viv, Robin and Amy will keep the school running smoothly. I will miss the school and community but it is time to smell the roses and give my wife Nancy some relief with babysitting our seven grandchildren, as well as, some household tasks. However, she wants me to stay out of the kitchen. We have no definite plans at this time.
My retirement is effective July 1, 2018. You will hear more about the process, procedures and timeline in the coming months. A survey that will assist the Board in determining community attributes for the new Superintendent will be coming soon via the town email system. The Board of Education is starting the search process which is available on our web site, www.barkhamstedschool.org
The memories of the Barkhamsted School, its students, staff, parents and community will continue to be with me. I will always remember the support you have given me and the support you have given our school.
