Recreation News March 2020

Barkhamsted Recreation Activities  Even though our regularly scheduled spring programs are postponed at this time, we have some other fun and meaningful activities for you and your family to participate in.

Kindness Card Campaign   Would you and your family like to help out others that could really use some extra cheer?  Participate in the Recreation Department’s “Kindness Card” campaign for the Valerie Manor.  Nursing homes across the country have had to restrict their access to visitors to help stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.  This has left many of the residents feeling even more isolated.   Children, adults and families can participate by writing letters, sending encouraging cards, photos, coloring pages, art work and notes for the residents and drop them off in the white mailbox outside of Town Hall in a Manila Folder labeled-Cards for Valerie Manor from the Recreation Department.  Or you could mail them to Valerie Manor- 1360 Torringford St.  Torrington, CT 06790    Attention-Tracy Hoskins-Recreation

Junior River Ranger Activity-Fun for the whole Family!  Are you looking for something fun to do with the family while practicing social distancing? The kids and you are ready to get outside and reset now that spring is finally here and the River and our area trails provide a great opportunity to help everyone cope with this difficult time. The FRCC River Steward Team and the Barkhamsted Recreation Department have partnered to bring you the Junior River Activity Booklets that are now available in the white mailbox outside of the Barkhamsted Town Hall in a Manilla Folder. Alternatively these can also be downloaded on line from this link-…/FR_Jr._River_Ranger_booklet…

Get some good exercise, while you and your family learn more about our beautiful Wild and Scenic Farmington River and what a resource it is for all of us. The booklet is loaded with enjoyable activities around the river. We are planning a special awards ceremony at the end of the summer for all those children and families that complete their booklets and all will be awarded with a special badge and treats. We will also be featuring photos and videos of the locations that the booklet highlights for those who are not able out during this time. If you and your family are completing your booklets and doing some of the activities, we encourage you to post your photos and videos on the Farmington River Steward Facebook page-
